Mormons – The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints
According to the Mormons …
“We believe the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.” (Article 8 of the Articles of Faith of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints)
“There are four books of scripture that Latter-day Saints use. They are called the standard works and are as follows:
The King James Version of the Bible: Old Testament and New Testament
The Book of Mormon: (The Mormons say it is “Another Testament of Jesus Christ”), The Doctrine and Covenants , and The Pearl of Great Price http://lds.about.com/od/ldsscriptures/f/faq_scriptures.htm
Jehovah’s Witnesses – Watchtower Bible and Tract Society
According to the Jehovah’s Witnesses …
the Bible is not enough to give a perfect understanding of what Jehovah wants us to know and to believe.
“They* say that it is sufficient to read the Bible exclusively, either alone or in small groups at home. But, strangely, through such ‘Bible reading,’ they have reverted right back to the apostate doctrines that commentaries by Christendom’s clergy were teaching 100 years ago” –The Watchtower (August 15, 1981): 28-29
“He does not impart his holy spirit and understanding and appreciation of his Word apart from his visible organization**”
–The Watchtower (July 1, 1965): 391
* “They” are we who accept the Bible as the ONLY rule for faith and practice.
** “Visible organization” means The Watchtower Bible and Tract Society which prints The Watchtower and Awake! Magazines.
Truth According to God’s Word
According to God …
God’s Word is able to give understanding concerning salvation.
“And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.” 2 Timothy 3:15
“So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” Romans 10:17
God’s word is complete.
“All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” 2 Timothy 3:16, 17
“Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.”Deuteronomy 4:2
